DESCRIPTION
Some customers may complain of the following on 2003-2005 B-Series Trucks Cab Plus models:
^
2003 MY - Inoperative brake lights and/or blown fuse No. 13 (20A) in the Central Junction Box (CJB).
^
2004-2005 MY - Inoperative brake lights and/or blown fuse No. 19 (20A) in the Smart Junction Box (SJB).
This condition may be caused by wiring harness insulation that has rubbed off, allowing a short to ground between the roof panel inner support and
Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) harness. It may be necessary to repair the wire and add protective convolute material around the wire
harness to protect the connector and harness from sharp metal edges.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE:
It is not necessary to disassemble the interior of the vehicle to access the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) connector and harness.
NOTE:
Workshop manual refers to CHMSL as High Mount Lamp Assembly.
1.
Verify customer concern.
2.
Remove 2 screws from CHMSL at top rear of cab.
3.
Carefully pull the CHMSL housing away from the body. Pull wiring harness out as far as possible without damaging harness.
4.
Inspect the wiring harness near the CHMSL connector to determine if there is any damage to the harness insulation.
^
If damage is found, go to NEXT STEP.
^
If no damage is found, follow procedures found in Workshop manual section 09-01C to diagnose.
5.
Repair CHMSL wiring and install convolute to harness.
a.
Repair damage to wiring harness.
b.
Prepare a small (1/4" to 3/8" diameter) piece of convolute approximately 2" long (sourced locally).
