Crankshaft: Testing and Inspection
Crankshaft Inspection
1. Measure each of the crankshaft main bearing journal diameters in at least two directions. Verify the journal is within specification. Refer to
Specifications.

1) If out of specification, replace as necessary.
2. Measure each of the crankshaft main bearing journal diameters in at least two directions at each end of the main bearing journal. Verify the journal
is within specification. Refer to Specifications.

1) If out of specification, replace as necessary.
3. Use the Dial Indicator With bracketry to measure the crankshaft runout. Verify this is within specification. Refer to Specifications.

1) Rotate the crankshaft and subtract the lowest dial indicator reading from the highest dial indicator reading to figure the crankshaft runout. If it
is out of specification, replace as necessary.
NOTE: Crankshaft main bearing journals must be within specifications before checking runout.
4. Measure the crankshaft connecting rod journal diameters in at least two directions perpendicular to one another. Verify the journal is within
specification. Refer to Specifications.
