EXHAUST NOISE / TICK ON ACCELERATION

APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS
All 1995 B4000 trucks built before 4/18/95. Refer to the date stamp (in yellow paint) on the upper radiator support.

DESCRIPTION

Exhaust noise or tick may be heard during acceleration. This is caused by an improper connection between the front pipe and the exhaust manifold. The
flare of the front pipe may interfere with an intrusion on the exhaust manifold creating the improper connection.

A revised front pipe is available to correct this concern. Customers complaining of this noise should have the vehicle inspected and a modified front pipe
installed if necessary.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Verify the concern

2.

Disconnect all oxygen sensor connectors.

3.

Remove: (Refer to section F3 of the workshop manual for removal and installation instructions)

Muffler Assembly

4.

Remove two (2) oxygen sensors from the front pipe.

5.

Apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads and install the sensors in the modified front pipe.

CAUTION:

Use only "nickel based" anti seize lubricant (Loctite p/n 23508 or equivalent).

6.

Apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the exhaust system bolts and studs.

7.

Install the front pipe to the exhaust manifolds, loosely tighten.

8.

Install and tighten the catalytic converter assembly to the front pipe. Tightening Torque: 40Nm +/- 6 (29 ft-lbs. +/- 4)

9.

Tighten front pipe to exhaust manifold. Tightening Torque: 40Nm +/- 6 (29 ft-lbs. +/- 4)

10.

Install muffler assembly onto the catalytic converter. Tightening Torque: 40Nm +/- 6 (29 ft-lbs. +/- 4)

11.

Connect all oxygen sensors.

12.

Verify the repair.
