STALL WITH CLUTCH DEPRESSED (P1506) After Decel W/ Closed Throttle on Downhill
APPLICABLE MODELS
All 1995 - 96 B4000 with manual transmissions and calibration codes listed in the Parts Information portion of this bulletin.
IMPORTANT:
This modification is authorized only for the engines with the listed calibration codes. Performing this modification on other engines and calibrations
is unauthorized and could create a liability under applicable federal and local laws.
DESCRIPTION
An engine stall may occur when the clutch is depressed after closed throttle braking on a downhill grade. The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may
also illuminate and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1506 may be stored in memory.
This concern may be caused by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibration allowing a closed loop idle Speed that is too high for the vehicle
speed.
Customers complaining of this concern should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, have the PCM replaced with a modified part.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Confirm that the vehicle's calibration code (attached to the driver's side B pillar) is listed in the Parts Information portion of this bulletin and check for
an "Authorization Modification Label" (on the radiator support) with this Service Bulletin Number listed to verify that the vehicle does not have the
latest calibration already installed.

If the vehicle has one of these calibrations, and there is no "Authorization Modification" label installed on the radiator support with this
Service Bulletin Number listed on it, proceed to step 2.

If the vehicle does not have one of these calibrations or has already had the modified PCM installed, refer to the workshop manual for
troubleshooting and repair information.

Perform the normal diagnostic troubleshooting procedures listed in section F of the workshop manual.

If any DTC's are present, repair the vehicle as necessary.
3.
Verify the concern.

If the concern does not exist, return the vehicle to the customer.

If the concern does exist, proceed to Step 4.

Install a modified PCM. Refer to Parts Information.
5.
Attach the "Authorized Modification" label to the radiator support.

List the date, dealer number and the Service Bulletin number on the label.
^
Clean the radiator support area where the label will be attached (near the Emission Control Information decal).
^
Attach the label and cover with plastic shield.
