B4000 4WD V6-4.0L OHV (1995)
4. Remove sector cover by turning screw shaft clockwise.
5. Remove sector shaft, lash adjuster and shim.
6. Remove worm bearing adjuster and locknut, then remove lower thrust bearing.
7. Remove ball nut and wormshaft.
8. Remove upper thrust bearing.
9. Remove lower bearing cup using special puller tool No. T58L-101-B, or equivalent.
10. Remove upper bearing cup using a suitable hammer and a suitable size socket to drive cup out.
11. Remove sector shaft seal and wormshaft seal.
Assembly
1. Install wormshaft seal, sector shaft seal, wormshaft upper bearing cup, and worm shaft lower bearing cup, using special bearing cup replacer tool
No. T82T-3504-AH, or equivalent.
2. Rotate wormshaft in ball nut. If tightness or binding is felt, replace assembly.
3. Apply suitable steering gear grease to wormshaft bearings then install thrust bearings over wormshaft splined end.
4. Insert wormshaft assembly into housing, feeding the splined end of wormshaft through bearing cup and seal.
5. Place remaining thrust bearing in adjuster plug bearing cap.
6. Install adjuster plug and locknut into housing opening.
7. Position sector adjusting screw and shim into sector shaft slot, then check clearance between screw head and bottom of sector shaft T-slot.
Maximum clearance should be 0.004 inch. If greater than maximum, install new shim.
8. Lubricate steering gear with 10.2 oz. of suitable steering gear grease.
9. Rotate wormshaft until ball nut is near the end of its travel.
10. Insert sector shaft assembly into housing so that center tooth enters the center rack tooth space in ball nut.
11. Apply a small bead of silicone sealant to clean and dry mating surfaces of housing and sector cover. After waiting five minutes for silicone to set
up, engage sector cover by turning center screw counterclockwise.
13. Install cover washer and bolts.
13. Turn adjusting screw counterclockwise to obtain lash.
14. Torque to 32 - 40 ft.lb.
