NEW 4.0L TORQUE TO YIELD (TTY) CONNECTING ROD FASTENER
APPLICABLE MODELS
1996-97 B4000 built after 5/12/96
NOTE:
Build dates are located in the "Certification Label" attached to the driver's side door.
DESCRIPTION
New TTY connecting rod fasteners have replaced the controlled torque fasteners previously used on 4.0L engines.
Whenever nut and bolt replacement is necessary, it is important that the bolt and nut is replaced with the new TTY fasteners. Refer to the information
below for replacement procedures.
NOTE:
Do Not Use This Procedure If:

If the engine has an old tag number (refer to Tag Number Reference Chart), TTY fasteners are not installed and the existing assembly and torque
method should be used.

If the engine has a new tag number and the connecting rod has a 7AD" part code stamped on the rod beam, the connecting rod is an interim part
with a TTY nut and should use the existing assembly and torque method. It is important that the TTY nut be used on this connecting rod to
ensure proper nut to engine block clearance during cranking rotation.
Use The Procedure Below If:

The connecting rod is the new TTY style (refer to Engine Tag Number Reference Chart).

If the connecting rod(s) is damaged and replacement is necessary. If replacement is necessary, replace all six (6) connecting rods with the new
TTY style part.
