Fluid - A/T: Testing and Inspection
CAUTION: Place the vehicle on a flat, level surface.
LEVEL
1. Apply the parking brake and position wheel chocks securely to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
2. Warm up the engine until the ATF reaches 66 - 76°C (150 - 170°F).
3. While depressing the brake pedal, shift the selector lever to each range (P-1), pausing momentarily in each range.
4. Shift back to P.
NOTE:

The 4x4 shift lever in any position other than neutral.

Use the COOL 22 - 35°C (70 - 95°F) range as a rough reference only.
5. Ensure that the ATF level is in the HOT 66 - 76°C (150 - 170°F) range. Add ATF to the specification, if necessary. ATF type: Mercon V
CAUTION: Use only Mercon (R) V or equivalent transmission fluid. Use of any other fluids may result in a transmission malfunction or failure.
NOTE: Determine whether the automatic transmission should be disassembled by carefully observing the condition of the ATF.
CONDITION
If the ATF is muddy and varnished, it indicates burnt drive plates.
1. Check the ATF discoloration.
2. Check the ATF for any unusual smell.
