DESCRIPTION

The Overdrive Drum Speed (ODS) sensor has been deleted as a 97 MY running change. As a result, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may receive
stray signals from the non-functional ODS sensor that may affect the 5R55E transmission operation. To eliminate any potential concerns that may occur
from these stray signals, follow the repair procedure to cut and splice the connector wires together.

NOTE: 

Since replacement transmissions may not have a position hole for the ODS sensor on the transmission case, this repair is mandatory when replacing
the transmission.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:

The durability of a splice connection is dependent on keeping moisture and oxidation out of the joint. This splice must be soldered and sealed using
"HOT MELT SEALANT" type shrink tubing.

1.

Disconnect the ODS sensor connector from the sensor.

2.

Cut off the connector end.

3.

Strip the ends of both wires.

4.

Slide the heat shrink tubing with hot melt sealant on one of the wires.

5.

Splice and solder the two wires together.
