Valve Body: Description and Operation

COAST CLUTCH SOLENOID (CCS)

Applies and releases coast clutch.

Operation

-

PCM outputs driver signals to solenoids.

Uses normally closed and ON/OFF style solenoid.

Solenoid is an electro-hydraulic actuator combining a solenoid and regulator valve.

ELECTRONIC PRESSURE CONTROL (EPC) SOLENOID

Controls transmission line pressure used to apply and release clutches and bands in transmission.

Operation

PCM outputs driver signals to solenoid.

NOTE:  Uses normally closed and variable force style solenoid. Solenoid is an electro-hydraulic actuator combining a solenoid and regulator valve.
Produces resisting forces to main regulator and line modulator circuits. If EPC solenoid is shorted to ground, PCM outputs DTC for VSS.

SHIFT SOLENOIDS (SS1, SS2, SS3, SS4)

Provides gear selection by controlling transmission fluid pressure of shift valve. PCM driver signals to solenoids. Uses normally closed and ON/OFF
style solenoids. When solenoids are ON, holds pressure. When solenoids are OFF, exhausts pressure.

TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH (TCC) SOLENOID

Controls application, modulation and release of torque converter clutch.

PCM outputs driver signal to solenoid.

TCC solenoid is a normally open and pulse width modulated solenoid.
