RATTLE NOISE FROM PRIMARY TIMING CHAIN AREA WHEN COLD

2001-2002 B4000
DESCRIPTION
Some 2001-2002 B4000's may exhibit a primary timing chain rattle noise between 2000-3000 RPM. The noise is most noticeable with a cold engine, but
may be present after warm up. The noise is normally heard during acceleration between 2400-2500 RPM. Replace the parts supplied in the Primary
Timing Chain Tensioner Kit using the repair procedure below. The Kit includes: timing chain tensioner, timing chain guide, crankshaft sprockets.

Ignition ON. Record the customers AM and FM radio station presets on the repair order.
Disassembly
1.
Ignition OFF. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2.
Remove the engine appearance cover.
3.
Disconnect and remove the engine air cleaner cover and outlet pipe.
4.
Position aside the accelerator cable and speed control cable (if equipped):

Disconnect both the accelerator cable and speed control cable (if equipped) from the throttle body.
