You must re-time the left hand and right hand camshafts when either camshaft or the primary chain is replaced.
CAUTION:
It is important to install the special tools. The engine will run badly if a camshaft is off by 180-degrees.
The following camshaft timing procedure must be performed exactly as written. Read this procedure carefully and thoroughly. This procedure
includes information that has been updated from the workshop manual.
NOTE:
Crankshaft TDC Timing Tool 303-573 must contact the engine block. This positions the engine at TDC. While observing the timing mark on
the damper, turn the crankshaft clockwise to position the number one cylinder at TDC and install Crankshaft TDC Timing Tool 303-573. This
will hold the crankshaft in position, and prepare the engine for cam timing.

Using the Camshaft Gear Removal Tool 303-575 or equivalent, loosen the right hand camshaft sprocket bolt.
CAUTION:
The right hand camshaft sprocket bolt is a left-hand threaded bolt.
NOTE:
The camshaft timing slots are off center. Position the camshaft timing slots below the centerline of the camshaft. This will allow for proper
installation of Camshaft Holding Tool 303-577 and Adapter 303-576 onto the cylinder head. Then, install both tools onto the cylinder head.

Raise and support the vehicle.

Remove the right hand wheel.
21.
Remove the lower splash shield.
22.
Loosen, but do not remove the right hand camshaft timing chain tensioner.

Lower the vehicle.

The right hand camshaft sprocket bolt is a left hand threaded bolt. Follow the directions below for the procedure you are using to tighten the
camshaft sprocket bolt:
