Timing Cover: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Remove the engine assembly.
2. Remove the oil pan.
3. Remove the fan assembly.

a. Hold the water pump pulley with the SST. Loosen the clutch assembly with the SST.

NOTE:  The clutch assembly has left-hand threads and must be rotated clockwise for loosening.

b. Remove the fan and clutch assembly.

4. Remove the water pump. 
5. Remove the crankshaft pulley using SST# 49 UN01 001, crankshaft damper remover.

6. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.

a. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
b. Remove the screws and the crankshaft position sensor.

7. Remove the timing chain cover.

a. Remove the timing chain cover bolts and studs.
b. Tap lightly with a plastic hammer to remove the timing chain cover.
