Canister Purge Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

Inspection

1. Remove the evaporative emission canister purge solenoid.
2. Connect a vacuum pump to the vacuum source port and apply vacuum.

Specification: 54 kPa (16 in.Hg)

3. Verify that the vacuum holds.

4. Apply battery voltage to the evaporative emission canister purge solenoid.
5. Verify that vacuum releases when battery voltage is applied.
6. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the evaporative emission canister purge solenoid.

Resistance: 30-90 Ohms

7. If vacuum, operation or resistance are not as specified, replace the evaporative emission canister purge solenoid.
