Air Bag: Service and Repair
Removal and Installation
Driver Side Air Bag Module
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect positive battery cable.
3. Wait one minute. This is the time required for back-up power supply in the air bag diagnostic monitor to deplete its stored energy.
4. Remove in the order shown.
5. Inspect or replace parts as necessary.
6. Install in reverse order of removal. Tighten retaining screws to 10.2-13.8 N.m (1.1-1.3 kg f.m/ 8-10 lb-ft).
Driver Side Air Bag Module
1. Cover plugs
2. Mounting screws
3. Air bag module
4. Air bag module electric connector.
Passenger Side Air Bag Module
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect positive battery cable.
3. Wait one minute. This is the time required for back-up power supply in the air bag diagnostic monitor to deplete its stored energy.
4. Open glove compartment. Drop glove compartment to the floor by pushing sides of glove compartment towards each other.
5. Remove in the order shown.
6. Install in reverse order of removal. Tighten retaining screws to 7 - 11 N.m (71 - 112 kg cm/53 - 89 lb in).
7. Cycle ignition switch to prove out air bag system.
