Axle Shaft: Service and Repair
Conventional Fixed/Floating Type
REMOVAL
1. Jack up the rear of the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
2. Remove the wheel and tire assemblies.
3. Drain the differential oil into a suitable container.
4. Remove in the order shown in the illustration, referring to the following notes:
Differential Cover (2)
NOTE: Plastic differential covers must be replaced once removed from the axle casing.
Pinion Shaft (4)
1. On differentials equipped with a 3.08:1, 3.27:1 or 3.45:1 ratio axle, remove the pinion shaft.
