Wiper Motor: Testing and Inspection
CAUTION

Do not handle the wiper motor abusively when diagnosing wiper operation as it will damage the magnets and make the wiper motor
inoperative. Rough handling of a replacement motor may also damage the magnets.
To test the wiper motor on-vehicle, disconnect wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft from the motor and disconnect the electrical plug.
1. Disconnect positive battery cable.
2. Disconnect wiper linkage from motor.
3. Disconnect motor electrical connector.
4. Check low speed current draw at terminal (W). The current draw should not exceed 3.5 amperes.
5. Check high speed current draw at terminal (DL/O). The current draw should not exceed 5 amperes.
Relay Component Test
Perform this test when directed in the flow charts.
1. Measure resistance between terminal 1 and terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5. If resistance is 5 ohms or less between terminal 1 and any other terminal,
replace the relay. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to step 2.
2. Use two jumper wires to connect terminals 2 and 3 directly to the positive battery terminal. Measure voltage at pin 4. If there is no battery voltage,
replace the relay. If there is battery voltage, go to step 3.
3. Connect a third jumper wire to pin 1 and a known good ground. Measure voltage at pin 5. If there is no battery voltage, replace the relay.
