APPLICABLE MODEL(S)

All 1998 B-4000 Trucks with PCM calibration codes listed in the Parts Information Section are affected.

This modification is authorized only for the above models with the specified calibrations. Performing this modification on other models is
unauthorized and could create liability under applicable Federal or local laws.

DESCRIPTION

Customers may experience symptoms such as an unusually high idle speed when cold, surging or hesitation when the A/C compressor cycles on and off,
or harsh deceleration when the vehicle reaches the speed limit and goes into fuel cut which is too abrupt. A modified Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
is available that will reduce the possibility of these symptoms.

Customers complaining of these symptoms should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, have the modified PCM installed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Verify concern.

2.

Confirm the vehicle's PCM calibration code (located on the certification label on the driver's side "B" pillar) matches one of the old calibrations
listed in the Parts Information section of this bulletin.

If the vehicle has one of the old calibrations and there is no Authorized Modification Decal on the radiator support indicating the vehicle
already has a modified PCM, proceed to step 3.

If the vehicles does not have one of the old calibrations or has already had the modified PCM installed, refer to the troubleshooting guide in
the appropriate Workshop Manual.

3.

Perform the normal diagnostic procedures for the EEC-V (refer to section "05" of the Workshop Manual), and repair as required.

4.

Install the correct modified PCM according to the Parts Information in this bulletin.

5.

Install a completed Authorized Modification Decal (P/N 9999-95-AMDC-97).

List the repair date, dealer code, and this service bulletin's number on the decal and install it adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Decal on
the radiator support. This information will inform other technicians of the PCM modification if future repairs are necessary.

6.

Verify repair.
