Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
EXTENSION HOUSING SEAL AND BUSHING REMOVAL / INSTALLATION
REMOVAL NOTE
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Mark the propeller shaft.
NOTE: To maintain initial propeller shaft balance, mark the rear propeller shaft yoke and axle flange so they may be installed in their original
position.
3. Remove rear propeller shaft.
CAUTION: Use the extension housing bushing remover carefully so that the seal area is not damaged.
4. Using Special Service Tools (SSTs), remove the extension housing seal.
5. Install SST or equivalent and remove extension housing bushing.
INSTALLATION NOTE
1. Position the extension housing bushing into the extension housing.
CAUTION: The lube hole in the extension housing bushing must be aligned with the lube groove in the extension housing. This groove is located
at the 3 o'clock position when viewed from the rear.
