Water Pump: Service and Repair

WATER PUMP REMOVAL/ INSTALLATION 

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Drain engine coolant.
3. Remove cooling fan blade and clutch.
4. Remove the bolts and position the fan shroud out of the way.
5. Remove the drive belt.
6. Remove the water pump pulley.
7. Disconnect the heater hose.
8. Disconnect the lower radiator hose.

9. Remove in order shown in figure.

2. Water Pump 
3. Gasket

10. Inspect all parts and repair or replace as necessary.
11. Install in reverse order of removal, referring to Installation Note.

Note:

Use care when scraping the water pump-to-engine block mating surfaces. Gouges in the aluminum could form leak paths.

1. Clean all sealing surfaces.
2. Apply sealant to both sides of a new gasket and place it on the water pump.
3. Install the water pump.

Steps After Procedure 
1. Fill radiator with specified amount and type of engine coolant.
2. Connect negative battery cable.
3. Start engine and check for leaks.
4. Bleed the cooling system.
