Removal and Installation
STEERING GEAR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
Removal Note
1. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
Do not lock the steering column.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Remove the wheel and tire assemblies.
4. Remove the four air deflector retaining screws.
5. Pull downward on the air deflector to disengage the retaining Dins.
6. Loosen the LH tie rod jam nut.
7. Disconnect the tie rod ends.
1) Remove and discard the cotter pins.
2) Remove the castellated nuts.
3) Disconnect the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles.
Caution: Do not damage the tie rod end boot seals.
8. Remove the LH tie rod end.
1) Count and record the number of turns required to remove the tie rod end.
9. Remove the front stabilizer bar nut and washer assembly.
1) Note or mark the driver side end of the stabilizer bar for correct installation.
10. Remove front stabilizer bar mounting brackets.
11. Remove front stabilizer bar and links.
12. Remove the power steering fluid cooler to crossmember nuts
13. Separate the power steering fluid return line hose (1 ) from the power steering fluid cooler.
1) Allow the system to drain.
14. Disconnect the power steering return hose (2).
