Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
Front Differential Pinion Seal
FRONT PINION SEAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Remove the companion flange.
2. Use Impact Slide Hammer Special Service Tool (SST) 49 0223 630B and Converter Seal Remover SST 307-309 (T94P-77001-BH) or equivalent
to remove the pinion seal.
3. Lubricate the pinion seal with axle lubricant meeting specification API Service GL-5.
Note: Check the splines on the pinion stem to be sure they are free of burrs. If burrs are evident! remove them with a fine crocus cloth. Work in a
rotating motion to wipe the pinion clean.
4. Clean the pinion seal bore and use Pinion Seal Replacer SST 205-133 (T79P-4676-A) or equivalent to install the pinion seal.
5. Install the companion flange.
