Slip Yoke: Service and Repair
Cardan Slip Yoke

SINGLE CARDAN UNIVERSAL JOINT (SLIP YOKE) DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY 

Disassembly Note 

Caution:  Under no circumstances Is the propeller shaft to be clamped In the laws of a vise or similar holding fixture. Denting or localizing fracture
can result, causing propeller shaft failure during vehicle operation.

1. Place the propeller shaft on a suitable workbench. Be careful not to damage the tube.

Caution:  If components are not marked and therefore Installed incorrectly, driveline Imbalance can occur.

2. Index-mark the propeller shaft components.
3. Clamp U-Joint Tool Special Service Tool (SST) 205-086 (T74P-4635-C) or equivalent in a vise.
4. Remove the snap rings.

Note:  If necessary, use a pair of pliers to remove a bearing cup if it cannot be pressed out all the way.

5. Remove the propeller shaft slip yoke.

1) Position the propeller shaft slip yoke in U-Joint Tool SST 205-086 (T74P-4635-C) or equivalent.
2) Press out a bearing cup.
3) Rotate the propeller shaft slip yoke.
4) Press on the spider to remove the remaining bearing cup.
5) Remove the Propeller shaft slip yoke.

6. Repeat Step 5 to remove the remaining bearing cups and spider from the propeller shaft.
7. Clean the yoke area at each end of the propeller shaft.
