Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair
Standard Differential
REAR WHEEL BEARING AND OIL SEAL (STANDARD) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
Removal Note
1. Remove the axle shaft.
Note: If the inner wheel bearing oil seal is leaking, the axle housing vent may be plugged.
2. Use Rear Axle Bearing Remover Special Service Tool (SST) 49-UN01-033, Impact Slide Hammer SST 49-0223-630B and Adapter SST
49-UN11-101 to remove the rear axle bearing and inner wheel bearing oil seal.
Installation Note
1. Lubricate the new rear wheel bearing.
2. Use Driver Handle SST 49-F027-003 and Axle Tube Bearing Replacer Special Service Tool (SST) 49-H025-001 to install the rear wheel bearing.
3. Lubricate the lip of the new inner wheel bearing oil seal with appropriate grease.
4. Use Driver Handle SST 49-F027-003 and Axle Tube Bearing Replacer SST 49-H025-001 to install the inner wheel bearing oil seal.
5. Install the axle shaft.
