Flex Plate: Service and Repair

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION 

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the transmission; refer to Clutch for manual transmission or Automatic Transmission for automatic transmission.
3. On manual transmission-equipped vehicles remove the clutch; refer to Clutch.

4. Remove the bolts and the flywheel.
5. Install in reverse order of removal.

Flywheel Installation Note 
1. Install the flywheel.

1) Position the spacer and the flywheel.
2) Install the bolts.

Flexplate Torque Sequence

3) Tighten the bolts in sequence in two steps:

Tighten to 12 - 15 Nm (9 - 11 ft. lbs.)
Tighten to 68 - 74 Nm (50 - 55 ft. lbs.)
