MANUAL TRANSMISSION GRINDING AND/OR BUZZING NOISE DURING 2-3 SHIFT

1998-2000 B-Series with manual transmission built before 11/1/99.
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may exhibit a grinding and/or buzzing noise or a notchy feeling during the 2-3 upshift. This may be caused by the 3-4 synchronizer. A
modified synchronizer is available to resolve this concern.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify customer concern.
2.
Compare the serial number on transmission to those listed in the chart.
Note:
Serial number is located on a tag on left side of transmission.
3.
Drain all fluid from transmission and remove transmission according to the Workshop Manual (05-11 MANUAL TRANSMISSION REMOVAL /
INSTALLATION).
4.
Disassemble transmission according to Manual Transmission Workshop Manual (05-15 MANUAL TRANSMISSION DISASSEMBLY /
ASSEMBLY).
5.
Inspect brass blocking rings for any damage.
Note:
^ Replace only those rings that are damaged. If not damaged, reuse on reassembly.
6.
Replace 3-4 synchronizer with modified part.
7.
Reassemble transmission.
