Oxygen Sensor: Testing and Inspection
Voltage Check
1.
Run engine until normal operating temperature is reached, then stop engine.
2.
Disconnect electrical connector from oxygen sensor.
3.
Connect voltmeter between oxygen sensor side of electrical connector and ground.
4.
Run engine at 4000 RPM until voltmeter indicates approximately .7 volt.
5.
Rapidly accelerate and decelerate engine several times. Ensure voltage measures .5---1.0 volt when engine speed is increased and 0---.4 volt when
engine speed is decreased.
6.
If voltage is not as specified, replace the oxygen sensor.

Sensitivity Test
1.
Run engine until normal operating temperature is reached and continue to run at idle.
2.
Connect self-diagnosis checker tool 49 H018 9A1 to check connector, Fig. 4.
3.
Accelerate engine to 2000---3000 RPM and ensure monitor lamp flashes more than 8 times in a 10 second period.
