Air Vent Solenoid Valve: Testing and Inspection
Checking Air Vent Solenoid Valve
1.
Remove air cleaner assembly.
2.
Touch the air vent solenoid with finger while turning ignition "ON" and "OFF" again.
^
Solenoid should click when ignition is turned "ON".
If not, continue.
3.
Turn ignition "OFF" and disconnect carburetor electrical connector.
4.
Using voltmeter set to DC volts (20v scale), check for voltage between B/W wires of harness connector and ground.
IGNITION "OFF" - 0 volts
IGNITION "ON" - 12 volts (battery voltage)
If voltage values are not correct, check wiring for open circuit or short to ground (or short to power, if battery voltage is present when key is
"OFF").
If voltage is correct, but no click can be heard from solenoid when ignition is turned "ON", replace air vent solenoid valve.
