The hot idle compensator valve is a bimetallic spring valve that covers a manifold vacuum port opening into the air cleaner box. When the engine is cold,
the valve is fully closed to help provide a richer idle air fuel mixture. As the engine warms up and the air temperature in the air cleaner rises, the valve
gradually opens, allowing additional air into the intake manifold to lean the idle mixture and stabilize the idle speed.
