B Series Truck L4-2184cc 2.2L 2200 (1988)
Refer to Figs. 4 and 5 for torsion bar spring and lower control arm exploded view. When replacing assembly, note the following:
1.
On 2WD models, before removing anchor bolt, place alignment marks on threads of anchor bolt.
2.
On 4WD models, before removing anchor bolt, place alignment marks on threads of anchor arm.
3.
On all models, remove anchor bolt.
4.
Place alignment marks on torsion bar spring and anchor arm and on the torsion bar spring and torque plate. Remove torsion bar spring.
5.
Using tool 490727575 or equivalent, separate ball joint from knuckle arm.
6.
Using tool 49UB39615 or equivalent, separate lower arm from front suspension bracket bushing.
7.
Install stabilizer bar control link nut so that end of bolt projects .55 inch from edge of locknut.
8.
Adjust vehicle height as follows:
a. With vehicle on level surface ensure tire pressure is satisfactory, then measure distance from center of wheel to fender brim.
b. Ensure that difference between left and right side is .30 inch or less on 2WD models or .39 inch or less on 4WD models. If difference is not
satisfactory, adjust anchor bolt until specified height difference is obtained.
9.
If anchor bolt was not marked during disassembly, install torsion bar spring as follows:
a. On 2WD models, install anchor arm to torsion bar spring so that there is approximately 4.92 inches between anchor arm tip and
crossmember.
b. On 4WD models, install torsion bar spring so that there is approximately 1.18 inch from body bracket to tip of anchor arm.
c. On 2WD models, tighten anchor bolt until anchor arm contacts the anchor bolt swivel, then tighten anchor bolt an additional 1.77 inch.
d. On 4WD models, lower vehicle and ensure vehicle is level with relation to ground. If vehicle height is high, loosen anchor bolt. If vehicle
height is low, tighten anchor bolt.
