Transmission Position Switch/Sensor: Testing and Inspection
Idle, Clutch, Neutral & Air Conditioner Switches

1.
Connect self-diagnosis checker tool 49 H018 9A1 to check connector, Fig. 4.
2.
Ground the yellow/black self-diagnosis check connector, then turn ignition switch On and A/C switch Off.
3.
Shift transmission to Neutral, then depress accelerator pedal and observe checker test lamp. Test lamp should illuminate when accelerator pedal is
depressed and go out when pedal is released. If test lamp does not respond as indicated, check idle switch and 1D terminal of the emission control
unit.
4.
Depress clutch pedal, then shift transmission into gear and observe checker test lamp. Test lamp should illuminate when clutch pedal is released
and go out when pedal is depressed. If lamp does not respond as indicated, check clutch switch and 1N terminal of the emission control unit.
5.
Shift transmission through all ranges and observe checker test lamp. Test lamp should illuminate in Neutral or Park on models with automatic
transmission or in Neutral on models with manual transmission. In all other ranges, test lamp should not light. If lamp does not respond as
indicated, check 2C terminal of the emission control unit.
6.
Shift transmission to Neutral and turn blower motor switch On, then observe checker test lamp while cycling A/C switch On and Off. Test lamp
should illuminate with A/C switch in the On position and go out when switched to the Off position. If test lamp does not respond as indicated,
check 2C terminal of the emission control unit.
CLUTCH SWITCH CONTINUITY
1.
Disconnect electrical connector from clutch switch.
2.
Check for continuity between switch terminals using a suitable ohmmeter.
3.
Continuity should exist only when clutch pedal is depressed. Turn clutch switch to adjust as necessary.
