Fuel Pressure Check Valve: Description and Operation
Fuel Check Valve
The fuel check valve, located in the fuel return line (vehicles W/automatic trans and electric fuel pump) or built into the fuel pump (vehicles W/manual
trans and mechanical fuel pump), is a one-way pressure regulating valve for the fuel delivery system on carbureted engines. Excess fuel is allowed to
flow one way back to the tank, while no fuel is allowed to flow in the reverse direction. This prevents fuel in the system from draining back into the tank
while the pump is not operating.
