DESCRIPTION
On some vehicles, the Remote Free Wheel (RFW) system may activate unexpectedly while in 2WD. When this occurs, a ratcheting sound is heard and
the 4WD indicator light and RFW switch illuminate. This can happen at any speed while the vehicle is moving forward. These conditions are caused by a
malfunctioning indicator switch (figure 1).
INSPECTION & REPAIR PROCEDURE
If this condition exists, replace the indicator switch with a modified pan. Refer to the service procedure in the applicable Workshop Manual, Section M.
