Air Cleaner Housing: Description and Operation
Air Intake System
PURPOSE
Remove abrasive particles from engine intake air. Clean intake air significantly reduces engine wear. Resonance chamber reduces pulsing in intake
ducts due to valves opening and closing, providing a more constant air flow and reducing intake noise.
LOCATION
Left front corner of engine compartment. Resonance chamber is between air mass meter and throttle body.
OPERATION
Air entering the intake system flows through the air cleaner, then through ducts to the air mass sensor and on to the throttle body and intake
manifold. The resonance chamber reduces intake duct pulsing due to valves opening and closing. This provides a more constant air flow, reduces
intake noise, and increases torque during low speed wide open throttle operation.
CONSTRUCTION
Plastic air cleaner box contains a replaceable paper filter element.
