Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair

Power steering pump

1. Oil pump drive belt

Check for damage or wear

2. Locknut
3. Oil pump pulley
4. Key
5. Bolt
6. Pressure hose
7. Return hose
8. Fluid pressure switch connector
9. Bolt

10. Oil pump assembly

Check for damage or deformation

Removal and installation

1. Jack up front of the vehicle and support with jack stands. 
2. Remove in the order shown in the figure, referring to Removal Note
3. Install in reverse order of removal. 
4. Inspect the oil pump and drive belt components and repair or replace as necessary.

Note:

a) The power steering fluid will leak out when the return hose and/or the pressure hose is disconnected. Prepare a suitable container for it to

drain into. 

b) After installation:

1. Check the oil pump drive belt (tension) and adjust as necessary
2. Bleed air from power steering system
3. Check for fluid leakage.
