Wheel Hub (Locking): Service and Repair

1.

Assemble freewheel hub with two bolts and nuts and check the following:
a. Smooth turning of control handle.
b. Smooth rotation of inner hub when control handle is in FREE position.
c. No rotation of inner hub when control handle is in LOCK position.

2.

Remove control handle as follows:
a. Remove snap ring with suitable pliers.
b. Remove control handle.
c. Remove steel ball from control handle.

3.

Remove inner hub and hub ring as follows:
a. Remove snap ring with suitable pliers.
b. Remove inner hub and hub ring from body.

4.

Remove hub ring and plate as follows:
a. Remove snap ring with suitable pliers.
b. Remove hub ring and plate from inner hub.

5.

Apply suitable grease to sliding surface of each component.

6.

Install control handle as follows:
a. Install steel ball onto control handle.
b. Insert control handle in cover and secure with snap ring.

7.

Install spring in hub clutch, ensuring spring end is aligned with initial groove.

8.

Install follower to clutch hub as follows:
a. Place follower on spring with one end of large tabs against bent spring end.
b. Place top ring of spring on small tabs.

9.

Install clutch hub onto cover as follows:
a. Place tension spring between cover and hub clutch with its narrow pitch end toward clutch hub.
b. Compress tension spring and install clutch hub with follower tab fitted to control handle cam.

10.

Install inner hub onto hub ring as follows:
a. Install plate and hub ring to inner hub.
b. Secure inner hub, plate and hub ring with snap ring.

11.

Install inner hub assembly into body as follows:
a. Insert inner hub assembly into body.
b. Secure inner hub assembly and body with snap ring.

12.

Set control handle and clutch hub to FREE position.

13.

Apply suitable grease to inner hub splines.

14.

Install cover onto body, ensuring follower tabs are aligned with non-toothed portions of body.
