1997 Millenia equipped with a BOSE (5 speaker) audio system and a VIN of JM1TA22**V1307162 and lower
DESCRIPTION
The battery in a vehicle equipped with a BOSE audio system may be dead after parking the vehicle 3 to 4 days. This condition is caused by a faulty
transistor (located in the main amplifier) which increases the amount of dark current drawn from the battery. The transistor was changed to reduce this
concern. Customers complaining of this condition should have the vehicle inspected according to this bulletin.
INSPECTION AND REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Close all doors, hood and trunk
2.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition and measure dark current draw according to the instructions in Service Bulletin Cat G, number 003/96

If the current is more than 20 mA, proceed to step 3.

If the current is less than 20 mA, a problem may exist in the battery or charging system. Recharge battery. If the problem still exists, replace
the battery.
3.
Remove rear seat back according to section 5 of the workshop manual.
4.
Disconnect the connector from the main amplifier.
5.
Measure dark current from the battery according to step 2.

If the current is less than 20 mA, replace the amplifier.

If the current is more than 20 mA, the problem does not exist in the amplifier. Inspect the vehicle's electrical systems according to the wiring
diagram or BETM. Repair as necessary.
6.
Verify repair by measuring dark current draw. Dark current should be less than 20 mA after replacing the amplifier.
