SYMPTOM "A" WARRANTY INFORMATION

Symptom C

SYMPTOM C. CRANKSHAFT NOISE

SYMPTOM "C" AFFECTED MODELS/VINS
1992 929 - Vehicles with a VIN of JM1HD461*N0100001 through JM1HD461*N0999999

NOTE:

Each asterisk (*) in the VIN represents any number (0 through 9) and is included in the VIN range for this repair.

SYMPTOM "C" GENERAL INFORMATION
In "D" or "R" under operating temperature, a low tone knock may be heard at idle. This is caused by unequal clearance on either side of the no. 1
crankshaft bearing.
During combustion in the no. 1 cylinder, the crankshaft is forced in the opposite direction. This force allows the crankshaft to travel in the no. 1 main
bearing journal. To correct this noise, the drive belts driven off of the crankshaft must be adjusted to create equal force on either side of the crankshaft.

SYMPTOM "C" REPAIR PROCEDURE

Use a belt tension gauge, SST 49 9200 020 and adjust the power steering, alternator and A/C belts to the specifications shown.

NOTE:

If the belt tension gauge is not available, use a scale to measure the belt deflection.
