APPLICABLE MODELS:
All 1989-98 V-6 MPV.
DESCRIPTION
During the 60,000 mile service, inspection and/or replacement of the tensioner pulley is necessary to prevent a torn or jumped timing belt. This may be
caused by a worn inner bushing which allows the tensioner pulley to slant.
Be sure to include the following procedure during the 60,000 mile service.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Refer to the Workshop Manual for timing belt removal and installation. Refer to section 01-10 TIMING BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.
2.
Inspect the tensioner pulley inner bushing.
^
If the bushing exhibits a bronze color (wear) on the Teflon coating, the tensioner pulley and spacer must be replaced along with the timing belt.
^
If no signs of wear exist, bushing is OK. Proceed to STEP 3.
3.
Continue with the 60,000 mile timing belt service/replacement procedures.
