SUBJECT:
Recall Campaign No. 42110 1989 MPV Brake Lock Up
Dear Mazda Dealer:
Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Recall Campaign for the rear brake shoe set on 1989 Mazda MPV models beginning on October 18,
1991.
We have found that, as the rear brake shoes on these MPVs wear, their friction force increases. On some 1989 models, when the brake is applied under
certain conditions, the braking force at the rear wheels may be more than the driver expects.
As you know, 1989 MPVs did not have a rear anti-lock brake system installed. So, should the above phenomenon occur, it may cause the rear brake to
lock up. Under certain road conditions this may result in lost driving stability.
We request that you inspect the brake shoes and, if necessary, replace them with modified ones. You can find the detailed procedures for this Recall
Campaign in Attachment I. The letter to be sent to owners is shown in Attachment II. Please contact your Disrict Service Manager or Region/Distributor
office should you have any questions.
This is an important effort that will affect over 30,000 MPV owners. As we deal with these customers, we must remain sensitive to the impact of our
combined efforts on their overall satisfaction with Mazda products. We apologize for the customer satisfaction challenges that this Recall Campaign
creates for you. Your understanding and support will be greatly appreciated.
