On certain 1989 Mazda MPV models, the friction force of the rear brake shoe increases as it wears, which may cause the rear brake to lock up. If this
lock up occurs under certain road conditions it might result in lost driving stability.
If you no longer own your 1989 MPV, please complete and mail the enclosed "Change of Ownership" pre-paid postcard as soon as possible so we can
notify the new owner of this situation.
We have made arrangements for you to have the rear brake shoes on your MPV inspected and replaced, if necessary, free of charge at any authorized
Mazda dealer.
We recommend that you make an appointment with your dealer on or after October 18, 1991. We estimate that the inspection and replacement of the
rear brake shoes, if necessary, will take approximately 1 hour.
You may have already paid for the repair of the rear brake shoes on your MPV as the result of this problem. We will reimburse you for your reasonable
expense", based on Mazda's repair standards, if the repair was performed at an authorized Mazda dealer or licensed repair shop. If you have incurred
such expense, please complete the enclosed, "Request for Reimbursement Application" form, and mail it to us in the self-addressed envelope provided.
We will send you a "Reimbursement Application Form" within a week.
