SYMPTOM B. HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTMENT (HLA) NOISE

NOTE: 

Symptoms described in this section supersede those described in Service Bulletin # 012/92, Category B.

SYMPTOM B. APPLICABLE MODELS/VIN
MPV
All 1989-1994 models with a V6 engine and a VIN of JM3LV****R0615132 and lower.

NOTE: 

The asterisk in the VIN can be any number (0 - 9) and is included in the VIN range for this repair.

SYMPTOM B. GENERAL INFORMATION
Some 1989-94 MPV V6 engines may experience valve train noise during normal operating conditions. This may be caused by air trapped in the HLA
(Hydraulic Lash Adjuster) and rocker arm.
To prevent air from being trapped in the HLA, the rocker arm shafts have been redesigned to increase oil flow.
Redesigned shafts have been used in production since 02/05/94.

SYMPTOM B. REPAIR PROCEDURE
If the MPV was produced prior to 02/05/94 and exhibits HLA noise, replace the rocker shafts and inspect the HLA's as described in steps 1 - 3, replace
as necessary.
If the vehicle was produced after 02(05(94 and exhibits HLA noise, inspect the HLAs (steps 1 - 3) and replace as necessary.

HLA INSPECTION

NOTE: 

If tile HLA fails any of the following three (3) inspections, replacement is necessary.

Hold each HLA between your fingers and compress it If the HLA compresses, replace with a new part.
