ENGINE HARD TO START/EXCESSIVE CRANKING TIME
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINs
All 2000-01 MPVs with VINs lower than JM3 LW28G* 10166896.
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may take an excessive amount of cranking time before starting (approximately 4-10 seconds). This condition usually occurs after the
vehicle has been driven and then parked for more than 30 minutes. This may be the result of inadequate fuel system pressure due to a stuck open fuel
pressure regulator.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Verify customer concern.
2.
Confirm that fuel line pressure is within specification according to Workshop Manual (section 01-14 FUEL LINE PRESSURE INSPECTION).
3.
Confirm that fuel line residual pressure is NOT within specification according to the Workshop Manual (section 01-14 FUEL PRESSURE HOLD
INSPECTION).
4.
Replace pressure regulator with modified part according to Workshop Manual (section 01-14 PRESSURE REGULATOR
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION).
NOTE:

To remove pressure regulator, it may be necessary to disconnect the link attached to the IMR shutter valve.

Be sure to install All three(3) new 0-rings and two(2) new screws supplied with pressure regulator kit.
Tightening torque:
3.0 - 4.5 Nm {31 - 45 kgf.cm, 27 - 39 in.lbf}
5.
Install in reverse order of removal.
6.
Complete AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE, in (section 01-14) of the Workshop Manual.
7.
Verify repair.
