Output Shaft: Service and Repair
Output Shaft Seal
Front
ON-VEHICLE REPLACEMENT
1. Clean the transfer exterior thoroughly by using a steam cleaner or cleaning solvent.
2. Drain the transfer oil.
3. Remove the front propeller shaft.
4. Remove the oil seal.
5. Apply oil to the lip of the new oil seal, and install it by using the Special Service Tool (SST).
6. Install the front propeller shaft.
7. Add transfer oil to specified level.
Rear
Oil Seal Output Shaft
ON-VEHICLE REPLACEMENT
1. Clean the transfer exterior thoroughly by using a steam cleaner or cleaning solvent.
2. Drain the transfer oil.
3. Remove the rear propeller shaft.
4. Push a rag into the double-offset joint to hold the rear propeller shaft straight to prevent damaging the boot.
5. Remove the rear propeller shaft.
