Parking Brake Lever: Adjustments

Inspection

1. Ensure parking brake is completely released.
2. Block front wheels, then raise and support rear of vehicle.

3. Adjust parking brake lever screw or nut until wheels are locked when the brake lever is pulled 6 - 9 notches.
4. After parking brake is adjusted properly, apply parking brake several times, then release and ensure rear wheels rotate freely without any drag.
5. Ensure parking brake warning light, if equipped, illuminates when the brake lever is pulled one notch.

Adjustment

1.  Before adjustment, start the engine and depress the brake pedal several times while the vehicle is moving in reverse.
2.  Stop the engine.

3.  Remove the screw and remove the parking brake lever cover.
4.  Remove the adjusting nut clip and turn the adjusting nut at the front ot the parking cable.
5.  After adjustment, check the following points:

(1) Turn the ignition switch ON, pull the parking brake lever one notch, and check that the parking brake warnmg lamp illuminates.
(2) Verify that the rear brakes do not drag.
