Parking Brake Shoe: Service and Repair
Settling

WARNING:  Settling the brake shoes in a crowded area can cause traffic accidents, which can lead to death or serious injury. Do this
procedure only in a wide open area, or in an area with good overall visibility, and be extremely careful of people, vehicles, and other obstacles
in the area.

CAUTION:  Doing this procedure more than 3 times during the life of the brake shoes will cause the lining to wear.

NOTE:  If the disc plate or parking brake shoes have been replaced or if the parking brake feels as if it is not working well, then do the following
procedure.

1. Inspect the parking brake stroke, and adjust to specification if necessary.
2. Pull up the parking brake lever, with a force of 147 N (33 lbs.).
3. With the lever pulled up, drive the vehicle for about 10 seconds at about 30 km/in (19 mph).
4. Stop the vehicle in a safe place, release the parking brake, and wait 5 minutes to cool the brakes.
5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 one or two more times.
6. After the procedure is completed, inspect the parking brake stroke, and adjust to the specification if necessary.
