Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Testing and Inspection
With SST-New Generation Star Tester
1. Check the mass air flow sensor for damage and cracks.
2. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
3. Shift the selector lever to P.
4. Turn off all electrical loads.
(1) Headlight
(2) Blower motor
(3) Rear window defroster
(4) Power steering
5. Wait until the cooling fan stops.
Special Service Tool (SST) New Generation Star (NGS) Tester Connected To DLC-2
6. Connect the SSTs (NGS) to the data link connector 2 located under the driver side dashboard.
7. Select the "PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD" function on the NGS display.
8. Select "MAF V" on the NGS display. NGS measures and shows the voltage.
9. If not as specified, inspect the following.
Mass Air Flow Sensor Connector
(1) Harness continuity
(1) Between PCM terminal 3B and mass air flow sensor terminal B
(2) Between PCM terminal 4A and mass air flow sensor terminal E
(3) Between main relay terminal D and mass air flow sensor terminal A
(2) Mass air flow sensor terminal A voltage: Battery positive voltage
10. If there is incorrect terminal voltage or harness continuity, replace the mass air flow sensor.
