Wheel Speed Sensor: Testing and Inspection

ABS WHEEL-SPEED SENSOR (FRONT AND REAR) INSPECTION

Remove the wheel and tire, and inspect the sensor for looseness and damage. Replace the sensor if necessary.

CLEARENCE INSPECTION 

Front 
-

Check the clearance between the wheel-speed sensor and the sensor rotor.

Clearance: 0.5 - 1.3 mm (0.0197 - 0.0512 inch) 

Rear 
1. Remove the ABS wheel-speed sensor.

2. Measure A and B shown in the image by using calipers.
3. Subtract B from A then verify the clearance between the ABS wheel-speed sensor and the sensor rotor.

Clearance: A - B: 0.3 - 1.1 mm (0.0119 - 0.0433 inch) 

RESISTANCE INSPECTION 
1. Disconnect the ABS wheel-speed sensor connector.

2. Check the resistance at the ABS wheel-speed sensor.

Resistance: 1.4 - 1.8 k Ohms 

3. If not as specified, replace the ABS wheel-speed sensor or sensor rotor as necessary.

VOLTAGE INSPECTION 
1. On level ground, jack up the vehicle and support it evenly on safety stands.
