Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
OIL SEAL (TRANSMISSION) ON-VEHICLE REPLACEMENT
2WD Model
1. Clean the transmission exterior thoroughly by using a steam cleaner or cleaning solvent.
2. Drain the ATF.
3. Remove the propeller shaft.
4. Remove the oil seal from the extension housing, being careful not to allow any metal tools to scratch the extension housing or output shaft.
5. Apply ATF to the oil seal lip.
6. Install the new oil seal by using a plastic hammer.
7. Install the propeller shaft.
8. Add ATF to the specified level.
4WD Model
1. Clean the transmission and transfer exterior thoroughly by using a steam cleaner or cleaning solvent.
2. Remove the transfer case.
3. Drain the ATF.
4. Remove the oil seal from the adapter case, being careful not to allow any metal tools to scratch the adapter case or output shaft.
5. Apply ATF to the oil seal lip.
