Idle Speed: Adjustments

***UPDATED BY TSB #F03192, DECEMBER 23, 1992

PREPARATION

Diagnosis Connector

1.

Warm engine to operating temperature.

2.

Turn all electrical loads "OFF."

3.

If using Mazda System Selector (SST #49 B019 9A0), connect to diagnosis connector.  Set switch "A" to position "1" and test switch to
"SELF-TEST" position.

4.

Connect tachometer.

5.

Apply parking brake.

NOTE: If Mazda SST is not used, bridge "TEN" and "GND" terminals of diagnostic connector with a jumper wire. This "fixes" idle speed control

valve and ignition timing so base adjustments can be made correctly.

ADJUSTMENT

Idle Speed Adjustment

1.

After preparation, check idle speed for these specifications:

750 ± 50 rpm (neutral or "P" range)

NOTE: Check idle speed when electric cooling fan is not operating.  On A/T Canadian models, idle speed will be approximately 50 rpm higher if

parking brake is not applied.

2.

If idle speed is not within specification, correct with air adjusting screw.

3.

Following adjustment, disconnect SST or remove jumper wire.
