Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
INSPECTION
Closed Throttle Position Switch
-
Turn the ignition switch to OFF and the throttle valve to the closed throttle position.
-
Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
-
Check continuity between throttle position sensor terminals A and B.
-
If not as specified, adjust the throttle position sensor.
-
Insert a 0.4 mm (0.016 in.) feeler gauge between the stopper and the throttle lever.
-
Verify that there is no continuity between the throttle position sensor terminals A and B.
-
If there is continuity, adjust the throttle position sensor.
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
-
Connect the SSTs (Engine Signal Monitor) to the ECM.
-
Verify that the throttle valve is at the closed throttle position.
-
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
-
Measure the voltage at ECM terminal 3E
Specification
Closed throttle position: 0.1 - 1.1 V
Wide open throttle: 3.1 - 4.5 V
(Verify that the voltage increase is directly proportioned to the throttle valve opening angle.)
-
If not as specified, adjust the throttle position sensor.
